Villa TrasilloResidential Projects

Anacapri 2004-2010

Embracing Freedom and Views

Francesco Della Femina reimagined Villa Trasillo by opening its interiors to the breathtaking panorama of the sea and islands beyond. Preserving the characteristic white walls and original windows of a typical Caprese house, he revolutionized the internal layout to create seamless visual connections from inside to outside. Outdoor spaces were designed as natural extensions of the interiors, enhancing the experience of freedom and light while respecting the villa’s historic character

Architectural Restoration and Interior Craftsmanship

The villa’s interiors celebrate Caprese tradition through vaulted ceilings and the creative reuse of antique tiles discovered during restoration. Francesco transformed the empty shell of the house, maintaining structural integrity while completely redesigning the spatial flow. Handcrafted furniture, carefully selected antiques, and bespoke elements harmonize to evoke timeless elegance infused with contemporary comfort

Garden and Landscape Design

A vital part of the project was the garden, where the historic cistern was preserved and enhanced to support a rich variety of Mediterranean flora. The infinity pool, gracefully integrated into the natural stone setting, offers uninterrupted views over the sea. The restored colonnaded walkway and carefully curated outdoor seating areas invite relaxation and leisure, blending nature and architecture in perfect harmony.

Respecting Local Regulations and Traditions

Renovating a home on Capri meant navigating stringent local building regulations and respecting the island’s architectural heritage. Francesco’s sensitive approach balanced innovation with preservation, ensuring that new interventions complied with strict codes while enhancing the villa’s original charm. Materials were transported carefully along narrow, steep streets, underscoring the complexity and dedication involved in the project.

Unique Decorative Elements and Historical Touches

Villa Trasillo’s interiors are enriched by unique decorative details: hand-sewn silk cushions from vintage fabrics, 18th and 19th-century furnishings, and artfully restored architectural features. The fusion of historical artifacts—such as a 17th-century convent cabinet and Roman-era sculptures—with modern design creates a living space that honors the past while embracing present-day luxury and comfort.
